NADbank General Newsletter Winter 2011

The New Year seems a long while ago as we hit the year running. As I write this, the 2011 Study is in field. We are surveying over 26,000 adults in 54 markets and are happy to have the St. Catharines newspapers as members once again.

The 2010 data will be released on March 30th. All readership-product markets funded half samples in 2010 so all results will be two-year blended data (2009/2010). In order to provide members with more up-to-date results in the major markets NADbank will also publish single year, 2010, results for Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, and Edmonton. As well, Halifax results will be available in order to provide the full Metro network. The samples will be small in the single-year database; only top-line readership data will be available.

The RoadMap Committee is moving forward with the new research plan endorsed by the Board last Fall. The details are still being finalised, but it is a multi-step programme to incorporate print and online readership in a holistic model. We need a research tool that provides an understanding of the entire distribution plan employed by our newspaper members. The launch of the iPad tablet last spring has accelerated this need. Newspapers are reaching out to readers on a variety of platforms and NADbank is developing a tool to provide more information about how Canadians access their “newspapers”.

If you are on twitter, we encourage you to “follow” NADbank as we have expanded our presence in this realm. We will not only send out interesting information about newspaper readership, but will be sending out teasers using the mail survey data. Links will be provided to charts on the website highlighting our data and how it can be used by marketers.

We are sorry to announce that Sunni Boot from ZenithOptimedia Canada Inc. has retired from the Board of Directors. She was a founding member (1997) and her insights and contribution over the years have been a real asset to the organization. As well, Chris Brockbank, from Québecor Media Inc. has resigned from the Board and we welcome Mike Power, the Publisher for The Toronto Sun and 24 hours.
