2009 is behind us, the economy is slowly gaining its sea legs, and NADbank is on schedule with the 2010 fieldwork and reviewing the results from the 2009 study. The 2009 readership results will be released on Wednesday March 17. In order to manage the challenges facing the industry, all markets in the 2010 study will be funded as “half sample” markets. All 2010 results will be blended with the 2009 data. This decision was made to reduce costs for our members while making no compromises to the quality of the study methodology or utility of the data. While sample sizes in 2010 in some markets have been reduced, the total sample released will be the same as in the past.
The Roadmap Committee conducted two flights of the “Flow Test” in 2009 in order to understand how to integrate new online readership questions into the survey and to determine if we could make changes to the current print readership questions. Based on the test results, changes were made to the 2010 questionnaire to provide more in-depth questions regarding the readership of the online editions of our newspaper members.
Unfortunately, the results from the test of the new currency questions were not definitive and the Technical Committee recommended that we retain the issue-specific readership questions until we have a better understanding of the impact of making a change to the questions. The Roadmap Committee will continue to work on this project as NADbank needs more flexible print readership questions. The current model requires all members to publish on all five weekdays in order to generate the average issue readership, “read yesterday” numbers.
The Roadmap Committee members will continue to investigate exciting and innovative opportunities to improve the study for members. I will keep you posted on their projects.
NADbank welcomes two new Board members this year: Robert Troutbeck from Troutbeck Chernoff Inc. and Philippe Guay from Quebecor Media Inc. They have both already made a positive contribution to the Board.
