The 2008 readership data was released in late March and was a good news story for daily newspapers. Readership of the printed newspapers remains strong and growth continues for online editions.
Changes in readership behaviour are affecting how newspapers distribute news and how NADbank captures readership. The complexity of the media environment, in tandem with advances and availability of new technology result in an increasingly difficult problem for researchers. Technology works against them; consumers are using a wide variety of technology to access media and many use it to avoid researchers. Tha same technology is difficult to measure, particularly when privacy issues are taken into account.
The NADbank Roadmap committee continues its ongoing work to look for ways to reach consumers and gain insight into their media activities. The telephone methodology continues to provide members with the best available sample but this will change, perhaps in the near future. New ways to reach consumers are being considered to ensuring that once a person is reached and asked for his/her participation, that the survey is clear and sensible.
Results from the telephone questionnaire test, the Flow Test, will be available in the late spring and the findings incorporated into the 2010 Study.
The committee members who volunteer their time are working hard on behalf of all members to ensure the quality of the data NADbank collects and releases. If you are interested in joining a committee please do not hesitate to call or email me. Information about all NADbank activities and resources can be found on the website; www.nadbank.com.
